Reynolds microphones in the studio
Ambisonics on major scores
A-Type 8 ambisonic microphones were used at Abbey Road on Hildur Guðnadóttir's soundtrack for the Poirot film A Haunting in Venice, capturing the room in full sphere for immersive mixes.
Mike Hatch of Floating Earth, one of the UK's leading classical recording engineers, has used them on his sessions:
"Jack Reynolds has hand crafted a surround microphone that offers truly exceptional audio quality and noise performance… more transparent than any others I have heard so far."
Mike Hatch, Floating Earth
The A-Type 8 records eight channels of A-Format that decode to second-order ambisonics for Dolby Atmos, binaural and surround. It has also been used in BBC Maida Vale Studio 1 and at Snape Maltings.
Valve microphones
- RM1V: hand-built around a Thiersch M7-type capsule, a Telefunken EF80 valve and an AMI T47 output transformer. Built to commission.
- R-Type: multipattern valve condenser with a K67-type or CK12-type capsule and a 9-position pattern selector on the power supply.
