Introducing the A-Type 4 & 8 Encoder Plugins by atmoky
I'm really excited to announce the release of the Reynolds Microphones A-Type 4 and A-Type 8 Encoder VST plugins.
These plugins were developed in collaboration with the brilliant team at atmoky, including Daniel Rudrich and Markus Zaunschirm. Their expertise in spatial audio and plugin design made this a fantastic project to be part of.
At the heart of the plugin is a state-of-the-art A-Format to B-Format conversion, ensuring that recordings from the A-Type microphone systems are transformed with precision and clarity. Whether you're capturing immersive soundscapes or pinpointing directionality in post, the conversion quality makes a real difference.
We’ve also included some thoughtful features that came directly from real-world recording needs:
-
Windshield Compensation:
You can now compensate for the presence of a Rycote BBG windshield and Windjammer fur, which is a game changer when recording outdoors. These adjustments help restore transparency and natural tone that often get lost with wind protection gear. -
Neumann KU100 EQ Matching:
There's a switchable setting that boosts low-end and high-end (“air”) frequencies to approximate the diffuse field EQ of a Neumann KU100 binaural microphone. -
Low Noise Mode (A-Type 8 only):
The A-Type 8 plugin also features a low-noise mode, ideal for capturing very quiet or distant sources. It’s a subtle but important tool for sound designers and recordists working in sensitive environments.
I’m genuinely proud of how these plugins turned out. They're available now as part of the A-Type 4 and A-Type 8 kits, and I think they add a ton of value for anyone looking to get the most out of their recordings.
If you have any questions about how the plugin works or how to integrate it into your workflow, feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to talk.
Cheers,
Jack
